We stopped in at Albuquerque to see my dad's youngest brother, Uncle Joe and his wife, Mary, They were more than hospitable to us. Such a welcome reprieve to get out of the camper for a few days and sleep inside their house, spend time with the and rest. We had dinner with my cousins our first night at a local Mexican place. The New Mexicans love their hatch green chili sauce! They put it on everything and it's quite good. I was told to try the "fried bread" as well. Nice little treat at the end of the meal with honey. Uncle Joe and Mary surprised me with a birthday cake we all enjoyed for multiple nights!
One of the items on our bucket list was to fly in a hot air balloon. And we did just that in Albuquerque! We woke up at 4:30 in the morning to be at our location by 5:15 and set off on an early morning adventure in the sky. I think our kid's favorite part was watching them blow the balloons up! Had Beau and I known that we could have saved ourselves a good bit of money.
It looks like everyone loved the adventure by the pictures, but to be honest, the kids were scared most of the trip. And not for the reason you would think. Every time the man driving the balloon would shoot the fire into the balloon to get it to rise is when they were most frightened. It was the loud noise that got them. It was the height of the balloon or the fact that we were flying at all. Gray stayed sitting on the bottom of the basket for 70% of the trip and finally got up towards the end and then loved it. If you asked them that day if they would go again they would have said no. But ask them today and they'll say yes. It's kind of like pregnancy. Give it a few months and you forget how bad delivery was and you look forward to the next!
