Fish-Restaurant Review

iend, Nicole, and I went to Fish a couple of weeks ago. It’s located on North King St. near La Fourchette. It was girl’s night and it was restaurant week so we knew we would get a great deal at a place neither of us had been to.

What a great atmosphere! It’s kind of dark inside, but not too much! You can definitely read the menu clearly and see your way around. I arrived early and was sat near the back, against the wall. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and extremely accommodating. I was given a very heavy menu (made of metal) that I scoured briefly before being given the restaurant week menu that was far less in choices. Nicole arrived…

Let me first try and explain the type of food that we were about to embark upon. It is meant to be a sort of French-Asian fusion menu. And yes, it was interesting…

After two glasses of wine were ordered we went about our ordering of our three courses: appetizer, entrée and dessert.

Nicole
Appetizer: Red Curry and Crab Bisque
Entrée: Fillet of fish with a stuffed potato and sautéed vegetables
Dessert: Chocolate-covered crème brulee

Kathryn
Appetizer: Red Curry and Crab Bisque
Entrée: Fish in a green curry soup with herbed rice
Dessert: Goat Cheese cake with honey

The free bread came first with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. Disappointment. The bread was tough and it was very strange to be dipping bread in a sauce that is usually meant for dumplings.

But that appetizer came out. Yum. It had some more of that bread in it, which we both picked out and left for our kind waitress and then we delve into the delicious soup! In fact, Nicole and I both had the bowls to our mouths with them tipped back trying to get every last drop!

I’m not exactly sure how good Nicole’s entrée was, although she said it was good. But my entrée was good. There was something in the title that led me to believe I was ordering pork, but then was given fish. Which would make sense because the restaurant is called Fish, but who knows! My dish wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it was good and I would order it again.

The part of the night that had me talking for days was the dessert. My goat cheese “cake” was, in fact, an egg roll stuffed with goat cheese and deep fried and then covered in honey, dried berries and walnuts. Oh my gosh! It was light and sweet and crispy and soft and something I could have eaten another one of had I been given the opportunity.

Nicole’s crème brulee was nothing to speak of as it was cold and simple. I wouldn’t waste the calories on that one.

Overall, I would go there again if someone asked me to, but I’m not eager to get back there anytime soon. Although, I would go back for that dessert…anytime you want.
